EURASIAN INFORMATION SPACE: UNIFICATION OR COORDINATION?

The article deals with the problem of choosing the strategy of information exchange within the Eurasian Economic Union: the possibility of national information systems unification or coordination of activities in the EAEU countries’ media structures. The author consistently analyzes the contradictions in the media sphere of Belarus, Russia, Armenia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. It is affirmed that in addition to the lack of direct legislative control, the integration of media systems is complicated by the heterogeneity and contradictory development of the media market in EAEU countries, the differences in the common models of mass information and in a heterogeneous audience requests. It was concluded that at the stage of the integration process in the EAEU the question of information space unification is not a priority. Directions for EAEU countries’ media coordination include: the development of a legal framework for information integration; the introduction of integration topic to the media discourse of the EAEU subjects; the creation of the interstate media structures; the development of a common approach to public media; the identification of forms and methods of interaction between the media without creating interstate structures; the use of online media potential.
