The article describes some episodes from the early biography of Nikolai Strakhov. On the basis of archival documents, the author provides a description of events that have influenced the development of his personality. The article describes some new facts about the family of Strakhov, about relations within the family, including the conflict and tragic ones. It is shown that the peers – Strakhov and Tolstoy – before their creative collaboration in 1870 began, had gone a similar way in early life.
