The article examines some aspects of the New Testament text against the background of historical data, the comparison of which makes it possible to reveal the way of everyday life in the Roman Empire of the 1st century. The characteristics of the population of the largest cities of the Empire and their life support systems are specified in the general cultural and historical context of the life of the ancient Romans. Particular attention is paid to the religious principles that organize Roman everyday life. It is shown that the New Testament text contains only indirect data on the population and urban planning of ancient Rome; data on the possibilities of movement around the empire are not fully disclosed in the New Testament testimonies. It is substantiated that the text of the New Testament mainly captures the Christian-Jewish religious confrontation, which forms a kind of a vertical of the daily life pattern; at the same time, syncretic-polytheistic religiosity of the population of the Roman Empire is sporadically noted.
