The article attempts to trace the influence of W. Benjamin on Hannah Arendt regarding the essence of metaphor and its function of &quot;transferring&quot;. This is an area of study of little interest to researchers of their intellectual heritage. The author argues that Benjamin&#39;s metaphorical thinking about history, tradition and memory has left a mark on Hannah Arendt&#39;s philosophy, in particular her theory of action and judgment. The author showed that the influence exerted by Benjamin was complex. He not only identified the problem &ndash; the ruin of history, the rupture of tradition, but also provided an effective instrument &ndash; a metaphor, moreover, a concrete metaphor of &quot;the cloth&quot;. It is her, following her older friend, Arendt will actively use in a number of major works to formulate the most important categories of his own practical philosophy.
