The article highlights and clarifies the factors that help determine the religious identity of participants in ethnic internet communities on VKontakte. A sociological survey method was used to determine this type of identity. The obtained data allows us to draw the following conclusion: the majority of the participants of the Internet communities in question profess the Ossetian faith Iron din. The socio-cultural and religious practices of this pre-Arahamic religion form moral, ethical and axiological guidelines for believers. They are conditioned by the observance of cultural traditions, which are characteristic of the ethnic group and the territory in which it lives. The study conducted allows us to say that the religious identity in question is a group identity. Its basis is determined through collective practices and close interaction with the older generation.
