At that time, the active development of the scientific foundations of developmental pedagogy began. In the Russian letteristics of the first half of the twentieth century, the development of concepts of developmental learning, which began in the previous century, continued, which were especially vividly represented in teaching primary writing in three main areas: free, rational and natural development of the child. The article shows methodological principles and approaches that remain relevant for modern literacy education in primary schools.</p></abstract><trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>The article presents the results of a historical analysis of the implementation of the ideas of the Russian methodology of developmental teaching of initial writing in the first half of the twentieth century.
