This paper examines the development of patriotism in the multicultural population of a provincial town. The purpose of the article is to characterize the tools for fostering patriotism using the example of Gus-Khrustalny, a small town in the Vladimir region. Ethnographic surveys of townspeople were conducted during the study. The results indicate that the majority of Gus-Khrustalny residents are patriotic. Younger people (10-25 years old) exhibit the weakest patriotic consciousness. A correlation was found between religious affiliation (Protestantism) and somewhat weakened patriotic feelings. The article presents the results of a study on the development of patriotism through attitudes toward historical, cultural, and natural sites. Ethnographic surveys revealed that approximately 60-70% of residents love their region, which refers to the city and the surrounding nature. Love for the local nature, way of life, and rhythm of life significantly expands and strengthens the sense of patriotism of townspeople. The cultural component of townspeople's lives plays a significant role, but it has little effect on the development of patriotism. Just as the modern "historical field" does not provide a serious foundation for the development of patriotism, a generation has emerged in Gus-Khrustalny that knows little about the city's history and has little interest in its history. A unique role is played by local writers and poets, who create works about the local environment. The development of military and political patriotism is examined separately.
