The article examines the metaphysical roots of the Serbian tradition. «Small nation» seems to be a strange phenomenon. To explain this phenomenon, the author takes a starting position of Isidore Sikulich’s judgment that the small Serb nation only seems to be small, however, it "is indeed a conservative, humble and long-suffering part of a greater nation or a whole racial group. And people know it <...> the nation is aware of themselves as a leaven and racial essence of something big, a nation that breeds a nation» [7, p. 45]. From this point of view the author analyzes some aspects of the language, historic and cultural traditions, including the problem of the poetry translation. The author speaks about the great interest in Serbian tradition taken by a younger generation of Russians and Europeans.
