On the Konstantin Leontiev’s understanding of democracy
This article examines K.N. Leontiev's critique of democracy in the context of Plato and Aristotle's classical critique of democracy. Being in a conservative position in relation to Russian culture and considering the historical evidence, Leontiev puts forward a system of criticisms of democracy and, in his view, the most successful provisions for the development of Russian culture. Success is seen as not utilitarianism, but a morality that leads to internal diversity, which is considered as an aesthetic priority, expressed, for example, in social hierarchy.
