Censorship in the intellectual culture of Russia (situation of the 19th – early 20th centuries)
The article presents the results of hermeneutic analysis of legislative documents of Russian censorship (statutes of Russian censorship in 1804-1828), ego-documents (diary and epistolary), relevant monographic texts, etc. In the course of the analysis we also specified the objectives of censorship activities in connection with different cultural and historical situations of censorship in Russia in the 19th – early 20th centuries, with special attention paid to the interaction of spiritual and secular censorship, using as an example the activities of leading representatives of Russian literary-philosophical and theological thought Alexander Nikitenko, V. Odoevsky, O. Novitsky, A. Kony, St. Theophan the Recluse. Justifying the productivity of a holistic, "event-based" study of censorship practices, the authors draw attention to the censors' desire to be responsible and understanding readers of censored texts.
