The article gives the summarized author’s personal experience of teaching non-core comprehensive disciplines (philosophical, ethical, and economic), based on the conception of activity learning and thinking concepts as it developed by E.V. Ilyenkov. Three objectives of developing education are formulated. Difference between the concept of the competence and the triad of ZUN («znaniya [knowledge] – umeniya [skills] – navyki [attitude]») were highlighted. The key importance of the teacher personality in the process of cross-subject teaching is emphasized.
