TRADITIONS AND INNOVATIONS IN HISTORICAL ASSESSMENT OF THE MOSCOW PERIOD OF RUSSIAN HISTORY

The article is a reflection on the features of the formation of a negative assessment of the "Moscow" period of Russian history in the domestic historical and philosophical tradition. The author associates the emergence and further consolidation in both the professional community and the public opinion of the negative image of the Moscow state and its institutions with the shortcomings in methodology inherent in the Russian historical school. Another reason for this phenomenon is associated with the dominance of liberal "discourse" in the Russian public opinion. Its requirements predetermined the specifics of the approach to the analysis of various sources. Narrative sources with their clearly expressed subjectivism in the assessments came to the fore. This subjectivism contributed to the formation and consolidation of the negative image of Muscovy and Moscow society in the historiography. Only in recent decades there has been a definite turn towards a more balanced coverage of this page of the Russian history. The new "discourse" is based on a detailed study of mainly documentary sources and in the second place – on the study of narrative sources.
