Artistic understanding of the theme of political repression in the works of Rudolf Vedeneev in 1970s-1990s

The art of the repressed is a relatively new and little-studied concept in scientific discourse, meaningfully referring to the history of Russia in the 20th century. The article analyzes the work of the Perm artist, sculptor, human rights activist Rudolf Vedeneev (1939-2018) with the help of formal-stylistic and semiotic methods. The artist, convicted under Article 190.1 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR, served his sentence in a corrective labor camp for three years. After being released the artist devoted a significant part of his work to reflection on the period of political repression, a turning point in his life, to reflecting the inner state of a person in conditions of lack of freedom.
