Church of the Ascension of the Lord in the provincial town of Bogaty
(towards the methodological frontiers of ecclesiastical microhistory)
This article presents the results of an attempt to reconstruct church microhistory. Despite decades of destruction of documents and artifacts, numerous sources have survived for reconstructing the forgotten history of churches and parishes. Many archival sources have already been digitized and are publicly available online. A striking example is the "Kursk Diocesan Gazette." A comparison and synthesis of discovered published and archival material allowed us to reconstruct the forgotten history of the Church of the Ascension of the Lord. The period from its founding to the turn of 1917 is reconstructed within the context of the urban history of the modern village of Bogatoye in the Ivnyansky District of the Belgorod Region.
