The genealogy of consumption practices in European culture

The article gives an indication of a new feature of consumer society – to save money when consuming goods, organizing common capitals and giving up the right of ownership for the right of use. The relevance of considering this feature of consumer society is due to both the problem of overcoming poverty and an attempt to understand the genesis of consumer practices in the historical development of European society. Cultural-historical and comparative approaches are used. The author concludes that if we consider the historical process of consumer practices, it turns out that such trends originated a long time ago, largely being prepared by the influence of the church and were a means of combating poverty (both now and now).
