The Metaphysics of Memory and Oblivion:
from the Intuitionism of Henri Bergson and the Phenomenology of Paul Ricoeur to Islamic Anthropology
In the course of understanding the possibilities and prospects of the integrative approach, which is one of the key ones in theological research and consists in a harmonious combination of theological methodology proper with the methods of academic humanitarianism, the article attempts to consider the phenomenology of memory and oblivion from the perspective of both hermeneutical and phenomenological science, including the intuitionistic direction, and through the prism of religious (Islamic) perceptions of the world. There are two vectors of orientation of approaches to the consideration of the phenomena of memory and oblivion – horizontal and vertical, the latter of which directly relates the researcher's attention to the metaphysics of the spirit, and therefore to theological research. The same applies to the types of intuition – intellectual and sensual (metaphysical), where the second one again turns the research gaze to religious grounds. The intersection of the methods of phenomenology, intuitionism and theology is revealed. The hermeneutic method, referred to in the Islamic tradition by the term "at-ta'wil", is used when considering intuitive approaches in both the philosophical and Islamic mystical traditions. Through a special theological method of Quranic exegesis (tafsr), verses concerning memory and oblivion are structured, the meaning of which echoes the metaphysical approaches of phenomenologists and intuitionists.
